The successful online video-sharing platform Vimeo has opened the gates of its new “video-on-demand” service, paving the way for independent filmmakers to market their work easily.
The video above is vimeo’s teaser for their new “vimeo on demand” service which has been opened to users who subscribe to vimeo’s PRO service.
The pro membership costs $199 (159€). Aside from that there are no additional costs. People who would like to watch your films can preview the work in the form of a trailer and pay an amount you set. The revenue is split 90% in your favour. To watch a film people are asked to register with vimeo in the process.
Other online pay-per-view services for independent films have been out there for a while, but none of them have as big an audience as vimeo where interesting and creative content is created and shared. In this sense this service can be an extremely powerful tool for filmmakers looking into monetizing their work.
Vimeo On Demand gives creators unparalleled flexibility and control: creators can showcase their work on beautiful, highly customizable pages; set their own price; and sell their work from their site, from Vimeo, or from both. All On Demand pages are built into Vimeo’s worldwide creative network that reaches more than 90 million viewers.
Vimeo has been working to improve their services and offer new features in the past. There are more feature’s on their vimeo-on-demand roadmap as well and we expect to see this grow as there’s a huge demand for this mind of service by a reliable provider. This is just the first phase of Vimeo On Demand — we’re working on new features right now, and there’s lots more to come!
