FilmConvert has just announced that a new picture profile for the Canon EOS R5 has been added. You now have the ability to quickly and easily grade EOS R5 footage, may it be RAW or not, with either FilmConvert or FilmConvert Nitrate. A future package will soon be added to CineMatch so you can get accurate colors with a pleasing film look. Let’s take a closer look at it!

If you’ve never heard of FilmConvert, a plugin we really like at CineD, this plugin (also available as a standalone app) allows you to grade your footage and simulate the look, including color and grain, of various film stocks easily. Their latest plugin, FilmConvert Nitrate that we discussed here, is slowly starting to replace the original FilmConvert Pro plugin, with more features and control over your desired look.

For FilmConvert’s plugins to work in the best possible way and to grade your footage accurately, you have to select your camera and the picture profile you shot with at the beginning of the process. Dozens of camera packs are available to download directly from FilmConvert’s website and cover many mirrorless/cinema cameras released since their launch in 2012.

The team at FilmConvert is close to unstoppable, with loads of new custom profiles for the Panasonic S5, the Canon EOS C70, the “low-light monster” Sony a7S III, and last year the Panasonic LUMIX S1 and S1H. Today, they introduced a new one for the Canon EOS R5.

Without a doubt, the Canon EOS R5 is one of the mirrorless cameras that made many waves in the filmmaking industry last year. Indeed, the EOS R5 packs a lot of features in such a small body. On paper, it has incredible specifications, like the ability to capture 8K RAW footage and 4K120P slow-motion shots, 5-axis in-body stabilization, state of the art autofocus, and so on. However, with overheating issues, the Canon EOS R5 also has some limitations, and we interviewed Katsuyuki Nagai-san, Product Management Director of Image Communication Business at Canon Europe, about these issues.
