Gitzo Légende is a new travel tripod and backpack made with the idea of maximum sustainability by using recycled materials, implementing a fully repairable design, and offering an unlimited warranty. The carbon fiber tripod can carry up to 8kg (17.6lbs), offers a maximum height of 165cm (65″), and a ball head with an Arca-Swiss plate. The backpack offers 14l of volume and easy-access compartments. Both Légende products are now available on Indiegogo.
Founded in France in 1917, Gitzo is a company with a long history. Since 1992 as a part of the Vitec Group, the company’s focus stays on designing and manufacturing premium tripods and accessories. Gitzo now introduced a new travel tripod and backpack called Légende. Let’s take a look at both products and the reason why are they being launched via a crowdfunding campaign.
We asked Gitzo why a traditional and established company such as them launches a new product via a crowdfunding campaign. They said that Crowdfunding was chosen because Gitzo wants to try new channels how to engage new customers towards the brand and the sustainability values of the Légende project.
Both Légende products are made with a strong focus on sustainability. As Gitzo states, they are supposed to last a very long time and be fully repairable. The products were designed to leave the smallest environmental footprint possible with the use of sustainable materials. The backpack’s main exterior fabric is made up of recycled polyester and 65% of the entire bag is comprised of recycled fabrics. Additionally, the Eco Leather tripod strap and backpack details are made of cruelty-free, environmental-friendly, and non-toxic synthetic leather, according to Gitzo.
Furthermore, to battle the “throwaway culture”, Gitzo offers an unlimited warranty on Légende products. The Légende Tripod is crafted of 170 individual parts that can be repaired instead of having to replace the tripod in case of damage. All its parts are replaceable and 70% of those can be replaced by the owner, so the part will be shipped out directly for simple repair at no extra charge.
Finally, Gitzo will proceed 5% of campaign sales towards its Wild Shots Outreach educational program which seeks to educate the children bordering the Kruger National Park (South Africa) about conservation and photography.
The travel tripod is lightweight and features carbon fiber legs with aluminum leg locks for ergonomic control with both knurling and rubber inserts. It can carry up to 8kg (17.6lbs) and with four leg sections, it offers a maximum height of 165cm. (65″). There is a universal Arca-Swiss plate on top of the included ball head.
The backpack is created with sustainable materials. It includes a tripod expansion pocket on the side which fits the Légende tripod precisely. It can be further secured with a quick hook fastener. The side camera compartments allow for easy camera retrieval.
The backpack also features an RFID shielded pocket that prevents the credit cards placed inside from being skimmed. The used Fidlocks fasteners ease access to the backpack. The laptop compartment offers easy access with one zipper from the outside of the backpack and it can take up to 15″ Macbook. Last but not least, roll-top side pockets allow easy access to memory cards, cleaning cloths, and other items.
As I mentioned above, both the tripod and backpack from the Gitzo Légende line are now available on Indiegogo. The pricing starts currently at $519 for the tripod only (35% off, planned retail price $799), $179 for the backpack only (21% off, planned retail price $229), or $679 for the whole Légende kit (33% off, planned retail price $1,028). The shipping of the products from this campaign is planned for June 2021.
Although there is an established company behind this campaign, we feel obliged to say this at the end of every crowdfunding-related article: please be aware of the risks when backing a project on a crowdfunding platform. Please read Indiegogo’s terms of use – especially the section about “Backing a campaign”. Keep in mind that there can be significant delays when delivering the product. Some products even don’t get delivered at all.
