SIGMA fp Dial/Button Conversion Service Launched

SIGMA now offers a dial/button conversion service for owners of the original SIGMA fp. For a fee, the company will modify the rear dial, MODE button, and the microphone/cable release terminal cover to match the newly designed parts of the SIGMA fp L.

There are currently two cameras in the SIGMA fp line – the original SIGMA fp (CineD review here) that was launched in October 2019, and the new SIGMA fp L that was introduced in March 2021 (CineD review for filmmakers, lab test, and review for photographers here). Apart from the new full-frame sensor with a much higher resolution, SIGMA also changed a few details about the camera body. Although the fp and fp L look almost the same, there are some subtle differences in certain dials and buttons. Now, SIGMA offers to modify the body of the SIGMA fp to match the new parts found in the fp L. Let’s take a look at the details.

SIGMA fp Dial/Button Conversion Service

The conversion service from SIGMA will replace the original parts of your SIGMA fp with the newer design parts found in the SIGMA fp L. This includes a modification of three camera parts:

• Rear Dial – the new rear dial found in the fp L has a firmer click feeling according to SIGMA.
• MODE Button – The height of the MODE button will be lower. The button stroke stays the same.
• Microphone/Cable Release Terminal Cover – The protruding edge that aided in pulling back the cover will be removed.

SIGMA further claims that during this conversion service, they will additionally clean the sensor of the camera and its exterior. They can also update the camera’s firmware if you request it. Please note that the original (removed) parts will not be returned to you.

Price and Availability

The conversion service must be done at a certified SIGMA service point, so you would have to send the camera in. The cost of shipping, conversion service, and the time required can vary depending on the country and territory you are located in. For example, in Japan, the conversion service takes around two weeks and costs 16,500 yen (tax included), which converts to $150. If interested, you can contact the nearest SIGMA service point. According to SIGMA, the warranty period after the installation will depend on each country’s law.
