Thing’s are heating up in the “dragon’s lair” that is the Red User Forum. Jim Jannard has posted a series of ambiguous posts suggesting an update of the Red Dragon is imminent.
“The Dragon is near…” “The Dragon is late… but worth the wait.” “I have to say that the skies have parted and the sun is shining… finally.” – It’s provocative marketing that’s got people talking.
The Red Dragon is the new breed of the Red EPIC sporting a 6K sensor. It will also be an available upgrade for both current EPIC and SCARLET users (Scarlet Dragon upgrade is a different spec to the EPIC, see here for more details).
The stats are impressive; 19 megapixel sensor shooting up to 100FPS in 6K, 16.5+ stops dynamic range, new colour science, redesigned sensor window for a larger field of view and wider lenses (Leica-M and Angenieux).
We posted some impressive sample images of the Red Dragon back in February, and Red had an interesting presence at NAB 2013. But besides this and the below image which has been circulating, Everything has all been kept behind closed doors.
Jim’s recent surfacing is sure to follow with some interesting updates on the camera. We’ll update as soon as we hear more.
