Angenieux has just announced a new RF Mount option for their EZ zoom lens series. This new mount makes the Angenieux EZ-1 30-90mm T2 and EZ-2 15-40mm T2 lenses natively compatible with a wider range of cameras, including the RED V-RAPTOR, Canon C70 and the new Canon R5 C.
The Angenieux EZ-1 30-90 T2 and EZ-2 15-40 T2 are extremely versatile zoom lenses. Their switchable rear optical block and swappable lens mount make them suitable for a large variety of cameras and shooting scenarios.
Up until now, users had three different mount options to choose from: PL, EF and E-Mount. Now the company has introduced an additional option to fit cameras with a RF lens mount, such as the RED KOMODO and V-RAPTOR as well as the Canon R5, R6 and the newborn Canon R5 C. Let’s take a closer look.
A few years back, upon release of the Angenieux EZ Zoom Lens Series, my colleague Olaf had written an overview which you can read in this article.
The EZ Series is comprised of two lenses: the EZ-1 30-90mm T2 and the EZ-2 15-40mm T2. These zooms not only cover both the Super35 and Full Frame/Vista Vision formats, but they go far beyond that.
In fact, their rear block is customizable in order to achieve the best optical performance for either of the two formats. This also has an impact on their focal lengths and T-stop number.
Indeed, when using the S35 rear optical block, the EZ-1 is a 30-90mm T2 lens, whereas it behaves like a 45-135mm T3. The same thing applies to the EZ-2 15-40mm T2, which turns into a 22-60mm T3.
Moreover, the Angenieux EZ zoom lenses feature a swappable mount that makes them natively compatible with PL, EF, E, and now RF-mount cameras.
This move was almost certainly done by Angenieux to offer users the ability to natively mount these lenses on the RED KOMODO and V-RAPTOR cameras. However, it also extends their compatibility to other interesting options, like the Canon C70, R5, R6, and R5 C.
Of course, the PL version can still easily be mounted via a PL to RF lens adapter. However, it’s always nice to enjoy the benefits of a native mount.
The new Angenieux RF Mount for the EZ-1 and EZ-2 zoom lenses shares the same price as the PL, EF, and E lens mounts. In fact, it is now available on B&H for $627.
When using the Angenieux EZ zooms, would you rather mount the PL version via an adapter or go with the native RF mount option? Share your thoughts in the comments below!
