The newly announced CAME-TV Power Base Supply offers an alternate way to power DJI RS2, RS3 and RS3 Pro gimbals. It supports Sony NP-F550, NP-F750 and NP-F970 and is crafted with a metal frame that is designed for rigging. There are several 3rd party power base options for the DJI RS gimbals, let’s see how this one stacks up against the competition.
CAME-TV has a range of accessories for DJI RS gimbals in their catalog. They make simple handles and spring-loaded grips, a car rig, remote-controlled sliders, Steadicam-like stabilizers, and even another power base for the DJI RS gimbal line.
What sets this base apart from their previous offering, the CAME-TV Base Adapter, is that this one is compatible with Sony NP-F batteries and isn’t tethered to an external brick battery. This could definitely be a good, compact alternative to mount an RS gimbal to a car or jib arm.
The CAME-TV Power Base Supply has dual slots for accepting two Sony NP-F550, NP-F750, or NP-F970 batteries as well as a D-Tap port. The D-Tap power port can be used to power the camera or another accessory or to feed power into the system from an external battery when using the RS2 or RS3 Pro only.
It appears to feature an all-metal construction with (6) 1/4 and (1) 3/8 screw mounts on the bottom, and a single 1/4 accessory screw mount on the back. It also comes with a safety lock bracket to keep the base firmly locked to the gimbal.
A power toggle on the back switches the CAME-TV Power Base Supply from OFF or two different power modes for the RS2/RS3 Pro or RS3 gimbal.
There are several power base options on the market from 3rd party sellers. This isn’t surprising since the only official DJI power base is sold with their $499 DJI Ronin Expansion Base Kit.
Tilta, and Smallrig both offer RS power bases in the $100 range that require a tethered, external power source. The YC Onion RS 2 Power Supply Module is nearly identical to the CAME-TV Power Base Supply. It also uses two Sony NP-F550 batteries and is constructed out of metal. However, it does not have a D-Tap port.
The CAME-TV Power Base Supply is available now for $169 either directly from CAME-TV or through B&H.
CAME-TV mentions that you can NOT feed power in via D-TAP while the batteries are connected. There is no mention if the base can run with just one battery or if they’re hot-swappable.
How are you powering your DJI RS Series gimbal? Do you think this power base would be useful to you in your work? Let us know in the comments below.
