DJI has just unveiled yet another sub-249g beginner camera drone, the DJI Mini 2 SE. It offers a 12MP 1/2.3” CMOS sensor, 2.7K video recording capabilities, DJI O2 video transmission technology, 31 minutes of flight time, and easy-to-use flight controls. Pricing starts at $369.
After releasing the 4K-capable DJI Mini 3 back in December 2022, the Chinese tech giant is now expanding their lightweight palm-sized Mini drone series with an even more accessible model, the DJI Mini 2 SE.
Although it lacks 4K video recording capabilities, this new SE variant inherits many of the features of the existing DJI Mini 2 model, starting from the easy-to-use approach that is rooted in the DNA of this tiny drone series. So let’s take a closer look!
This entry-level model is extremely portable and lightweight, tipping the scale right below 250g. This means that the drone should be exempt from flight regulations in most regions of the globe. Of course, we always advise you to flight with caution, especially if you’re a first-timer!
The camera module of the DJI Mini 2 features a 1/2.3” CMOS sensor that is capable of capturing 12MP stills images and record videos at up to 2.7K resolution. The camera is mounted onto a gimbal that provides mechanical stabilization on 3 axes.
According to DJI, the drone can reach a maximum flight time of 31 minutes, exploits their proprietary OcuSync 2.0 Transmission Technology to send a stable HD video signal over a distance of up to 10km and can withstand 10.7m/s winds while hovering.
Being aimed at beginner users, this lightweight drone model is designed to be pretty straightforward to fly. For example, the drone packs automatic functions such as one-tap take-off and landing as well as the classic return-to-home (RTH) feature. Moreover, it integrates DJI’s Panorama and QuickShots creative shooting modes. In particular, the latter are pre-programmed tools that can help you achieve cinematic shots of your subject effortlessly.
The new DJI Mini 2 SE is available to pre-order now and should start shipping on March 22nd, 2023. The drone-only option, which includes a DJI RC-N1 controller, retails for $369, while the price for the Fly More Combo accessory kit is set at $519. The combo pack includes a carrying bag as well as additional batteries and propellers.
Moreover, the company’s Care Refresh program is now also available for this new model. Offering 1-year and 2-year plans, it covers accidental damages and allows you to have your product replaced for a small amount.
What do you think of the new DJI Mini 2 SE? Could this be your first drone ever? Is 4K video recording important for you? Let us know your thoughts in the comment section below!
