RØDE has announced a new firmware update to its most advanced wireless product – the RØDE Wireless PRO. It’s the first firmware update that actually changes the device’s abilities, as former updates focused on compatibility issues, etc. As the Wireless PRO is a pretty rounded, feature-rich device, changes may come across as moderate but will improve total usability. Let’s have a look.
The RØDE Wireless PRO dual-mic wireless system is among the most capable around. With 32-bit float internal backup recording (at the transmitter level), a Time-Code generator, and many other features, it’s already capable of professional work. Now RØDE adds additional abilities and setting options to further enhance the device.
(AKA Low-Cut filter). Now the High-Pass can be set to either 100Hz or 75Hz to tackle various conditions. The choice is made by the RØDE Central app and will be applied to the internal mic, as well as any other external mic connected to the transmitter unit.
The RØDE Wireless PRO has a timer, turning the device off when not in use for 15 minutes. This will help preserve battery life but may interfere with some productions during extended breaks. If battery life is not an issue but peace of mind is, turning off the 15-minute timer might come in handy. It’s also done in the RØDE Central app.
The RØDE Wireless PRO receiver has a power-detection function, allowing it to switch on and off with its plugged camera. This function may also be disabled via the app.
The RØDE Wireless PRO is now compatible with additional RØDE products:
Installing the firmware update is quite simple. All one has to do is place the two transmitters and one receiver in the charging case and plug it into your computer. Once plugged in, the update is done by… you guessed it, the RØDE Central app.
Do you use the RØDE Wireless PRO? Do you find these new features helpful? Let us know in the comments.

Omri Keren Lapidot started his way long ago, hauling massive SVHS cameras as a young local news assistant. Maybe it was the weight that pushed him towards photography, we'll never know. In recent years he became a content creator, teacher, visual literacy promoter, and above all - a father of (fantastic) four girls. Based in Amsterdam.
