Earlier this year, MASV Rush was introduced to the market, a service to transfer huge files over the internet. 100 GB worth of data? Not a problem. But as you know, there’s always room for improvement, so let’s explore the new features of MASV 2.0.
This update includes new features like a polished UI, customizable upload portals, dynamic zip support, increased number of recipients and a complete overhaul of the underlying infrastructure.
As a refresher, read our article about MASV.io here. The two main features of this service are 1) the sheer endless amount of data it can handle and 2) the unique pay-as-you-go payment structure. You are able to transparently keep track of the costs using the service. Let’s do the math: 1GB worth of data for 1 recipent costs $0.15. Each GB adds that exact amount of money and each additional recipient acts as a multiplier. Check out the calculator over at masv.io in order to calculate your own estimate.
These $45.00 might look like a lot of money but try to beat that by using three individual hard drives which you have to send via courier…
MASV 2.0 is a huge update to the service since the company didn’t just add eye candy but overhauled the underlying infrastructure completely. They re-deployed to new servers, operated by leading cloud provider Microsoft Azure. This results in improved speeds for both uploads and downloads and in state-of-the-art reliability and security. Uploads at up to 800 Mbps, anyone? Downloads are capped at 400 Mbps for now but that’s due to cloud provider restrictions. MASV is working on a solution based on an in-house download manager which bypasses that restriction.
As you can see MASV has deployed a bunch of servers all over the world in order to assure highest possible performance. Server locations include Washington, San Jose, Sao Paulo, Amsterdam, London, Mumbai, Singapore, Tokyo and Sydney.
As it turns out, each operating system has different methods for creating zip files, especially if it’s handling massive file sizes. So more often than not we might find ourselves downloading a huge zip file but our OS seems to be unable to open it. Not good. MASV 2.0 tackles this issue by automatically providing different versions of the zip format for different operating systems.
Another minor downside of the original MASV was its limitation of just 5 downloads per delivery. After gathering feedback from their customers MASV 2.0 now features up to 50 downloads. Consider this as an evolutionary interim stage though since MASV’s goal is to change their billing to be based on downloads rather than on uploads. That way you can exactly specify how many times your files can be downloaded and when your files expire.
Another issue is the fact that you couldn’t share the plain download link just like you can do with WeTransfer. Once that delivery email gets deleted (or maybe it’s stuck in your junk folder) you’re done. With MASV 2.0 you now can access the direct download link through the history section and send it via email the old-fashioned way.
Create your own custom upload portal, with a personalized URL. Give that portal address to anyone on your team in order to receive files from them. Transfers will be billed to your account (again, $0.15/GB) and the files will be transferred to an email address specified by you. You can set up a bunch of portals, one for each project you’re working on, for example, and filter incoming files accordingly.

This feature is still in beta, if you’re interested you can request a seat and tell MASV what you think through their chat widget.
That is a pretty MASV update, so to speak. In order to get you up and running, click here and get 100 GB worth of data transfers, for free. This offer includes new and existing users of MASV 2.0. It expires by the end of November, though.
