The plan for the night shoot with the Canon 1D Mark IV, was to try and shoot the “Hollywood†sign in total darkness. This did not work out so well. I posted the video previously but pulled it because it was so bad.
Here is the reverse shot of Los Angeles. Check out the helicopters in the background. It was shot with a Canon 70-200mm IS Zoom Lens @ 12800 ISO.
The point I am trying to make here is that the 1D Mark IV is not a color night vision camera. It does hold up really well in low light conditions. However, everything that Canon did to enhance the video functionality for the 7D, they forgot to add to the 1D Mark IV. Most video functions are done within the menu system and the tiny on-off button seems to be an after thought. I will focus on the differences in video mode between the 5d, 7d, and 1D Mark IV in an upcoming review.
