Christian Sundsdal sent in this fairly simple an inexpensive solution to the audio monitoring problem we have with many of our HDSLR cameras. He used a simple headphone amplifier, a couple mini jack splitters, two mini to mini cables and a pair of headphones and viola he can now montor the audio out of the camera while recording. Pretty cool.
