DJI Mavic 2 Enterprise – When a Drone is Needed for More than Cinematography

Two months after the release of the DJI Mavic 2, DJI is back with the Mavic 2 Enterprise. DJI’s new drone is designed for those who use their drone for other things than just fun and photo/video. Let’s take a look at this new drone aimed at businesses and see what it brings.

An Expendable Drone

It’s in the codename, but this modified version of the Mavic 2 Zoom is enterprise centered. The new features are orientated on the fact that it can save lives. This drone is aimed at emergency services, governments, educators, rescue personnel and other professionals that need a reliable everyday tool.

The DJI Mavic 2 Enterprise comes equipped with an extension port. The port is a Micro-USB Type B socket. On this port, you can bolt-on accessories that makes it ideal for search operations and surveillance, but also filmmaking.

M2E Spotlight

One of the most useful new accessories for filmmakers is probably the small light that you can mount on top of the drone. This light consists of two LEDs with a total brightness of 2,400 lumens. It is useful to help search and rescue people in challenging environments. However, you can also use it for filmmaking applications. The main drawback is that you can only adjust the light angle (spot/flood) manually before the flight.

M2E Beacon

This accessory is probably one of the less useful for filmmaking. The M2E Beacon features a bright flashing strobe visible three miles away. It’ll help you if you are flying in low-light conditions or at night, and provides additional airspace awareness for operators of nearby drones and traditional aircraft.

M2E Speaker

The last accessory is a speaker, that is 100 decibels loud at a 1-meter distance. As this drone is aimed at rescue services, it lets pilots play up to 10 custom voice recordings on demand. It can be a lifesaver during emergency operations. This one could be interesting for music video filmmakers if DJI allows you to play whatever sound or music you’d like.

Under The Hood Changes

The accessories and the new red color are the most visible changes of the Mavic 2 Enterprise vs. a regular Mavic 2 Zoom. A lot of the specifications are the same, like the 12-megapixel camera, 4K video recording, the built-in 2x zoom and 3x digital zoom.

However, DJI also upgraded many things on the inside:

• The DJI Mavic 2 Enterprise now features eight optic sensors and two infrared sensors. Also, it comes equipped with DJI’s AirSense technology, so you end up with a much safer drone. AirSense uses an integrated receiver to automatically alert drone pilots of ADS-B signals from nearby airplanes and helicopters.
• 24 GB of onboard memory and password protection. A password is required each time you activate the drone, giving you full exclusive use and enhanced security over your data. It assures that the data stays safe, even if the drone falls into the wrong hands.
• An extended flight time of up to 31 minutes and a maximum speed of 72 km/h.
• OcuSync 2.0 technology, which supports automatic dual frequency band switching, producing a more reliable/stable flight and enhanced transmission up to 8 km.
• New self-heating batteries for harsh conditions, especially in cold environments. You can also use them on the Mavic Pro 2 and the Mavic 2 Zoom.

Pricing And Availability

The Mavic 2 Enterprise is currently available for purchasing via DJI’s online store.

The price of the Mavic 2 Enterprise Universal Edition which includes an aircraft, a remote controller, one battery, all three mountable accessories and a protector case with flight tools is $1,999.

A Fly More Kit which includes two batteries, one battery charging hub, one car charger, one USB connector, one soft case, and two propellers is also available for an additional $419.
