DJI has just unveiled two new accessories for their DJI Ronin 4D stabilized cinema camera. The DJI Ronin 4D Expansion Plate adds timecode, SDI-out and two XLR audio ports to the system, while the Three-Channel Follow Focus provides full remote lens control for Ronin 4D and Inspire 3.
First launched towards the end of 2021, DJI’s Ronin 4D combines a full-frame Zenmuse X9 camera, a 4-axis gimbal, plus a wireless video and control system into a single device. In case you missed it, make sure to check out our review and Lab Test of this one-of-a-kind stabilized camera.
Just a few months ago, the Ronin 4D ecosystem got a boost with the introduction of the Flex tether system – which allows you to detach the sensor, lens and gimbal from the actual camera body – as well as an optional license for ProRes RAW recording. Now, DJI is adding two additional accessories to the mix. Let’s take a closer look!
The new DJI Ronin 4D Expansion Plate attaches directly to the back of the 4-axis stabilized camera system via 3 screws. This additional module adds a BNC timecode port, a SDI-out port as well as two XLR audio ports. For each of the two audio inputs, you can choose between LINE, MIC or +48V settings.
The plate is compatible with both the 6K and 8K versions of the Ronin 4D and can be used together with the company’s wireless video transmission system. In this case, you just need to make sure that you attach the expansion module first, then mount the video transmitter.
The DJI Three-Channel Follow Focus is a handheld FIZ controller that allows you to gain full remote control over focus, iris and zoom when operating either the DJI Ronin 4D camera gimbal or the company’s newly-introduced Inspire 3 flagship drone (our in-depth interview here).
The unit features a large focus wheel, a slider and a rocker for 3-axis lens control as well as a REC button to remotely start/stop recording. In the box you will also find 3 marking disks for the focus wheel as well as a monitor holder for DJI’s High-Bright Remote Monitor, which is required to use the 3-Channel Follow Focus system.
The DJI Ronin 4D Expansion Plate and 3-Channel Follow Focus are now available to order for $489/€529 and $909/€799 respectively and are shipping now.
