DoPchoice SNAPBAG for Astera NYX lightbulbs is a very simple, compact and lightweight accessory that can focus the light beam coming from these bulbs. It comes with a carrying pouch and a quarter grid diffusion screen.

Standard lightbulbs are very often used on sets as visible light sources, so-called practicals. It is therefore really helpful if the light coming from these, has a certain quality and its parameters such as brightness and color can be adjusted. That’s why Aputure, Astera, and other manufacturers started producing these wireless lightbulbs for filmmakers.

The Astera NYX light bulb was first introduced back in 2020. You can check the Astera NYX review from my colleague Graham in case you missed it. For $105, the NYX light bulb offers an RGBA+ light output equivalent to a standard 60W light bulb and 180° beam spread. Unlike the Aputure B7c, the light bulb from Astera does not have a built-in battery. The light accessories’ manufacturer DoPchoice introduced a SNAPBAG reflector for the NYX bulb that will allow concentrating the light output in one direction. Let’s take a short look at the details.

DoPchoice SNAPBAG for Astera NYX bulb

The SNAPBAG for the Astera NYX bulb is very simple and compact. The package includes one SNAPBAG, a quarter grid diffusion screen and a carrying pouch. Thanks to the reflective inner surface, the light from the bulb should be better concentrated and provide a much narrower beam. DoPchoice published an instructions video on Youtube on how to properly put the SNAPBAG on. It holds in place thanks to the velcro strap on the SNAPBAG.

The SNAPBAG is compact and lightweight – when installed, the dimensions are 17 x 17 x 11 cm (6.7 x 6.7 x 4.3″) and the weight is only 60g (0.1lbs). When packed, the Astera NYX SNAPBAG only has 18 x 13 x 12 cm (7.1 x 5.1 x 4.7) in size. The good thing is that you can also leave the bulb in the SNAPBAG and still pack everything into the carrying pouch.
