At NAB 2023, DZOFILM unveiled a prototype version of their upcoming 18-90mm T2.8 Tango Cine Servo Zoom lens for Super35 mm sensors. The lens is clearly aimed at high-end broadcast and cinema productions and should become available in Summer 2023.
This year’s NAB Show has been a very busy one for the Chinese lens manufacturer DZOFILM. Indeed, the company provided a sneak peek of their first-ever 2x anamorphic lens series, called PAVO, as well as a prototype of a new cine servo zoom lens.
On the show floor at NAB 2023, Susan Wu from DZOFILM was kind enough to give us a glimpse of the key features of their soon-to-be released 18-90mm T2.8 Tango cine servo zoom. Let’s take a closer look!
As of this date, the company’s zoom lens offering – which includes their large-format Catta/Catta Ace, Super35 Pictor, and MFT Linglung zooms – has a strong focus on cinema applications. However, it looks like things are about to change.
Indeed, their forthcoming 18-90mm T2.8 Tango cine lens can be paired with a dedicated cine servo unit module, developed by Movcam, to meet the needs of the most demanding broadcasters. Both products are currently in their prototype stage, and DZOFILM announced that a longer 65-280mm cine servo zoom is also in the works.
The lens made its first public appearance at the show. It weighs approximately 3.6kg/7.9lbs, comes with an ARRI PL mount, and is designed specifically for the Super35 format. The Movcam cine servo module screws to the side of the lens barrel, enabling lens data communication between the glass and broadcast cameras.
According to the company, the 18-90mm T2.8 Tango Super35 Cine Servo Zoom Lens will be released around June or July 2023. There’s currently no information about price, but please stay tuned to CineD for future updates. For more information about DZOFILM, please visit their website here.
