Edelkrone has announced what they’re billing as the world’s most compact camera slider. Like many previous innovative Edelkrone products the SliderONE is ultra compact (almost pocket size) sleek and affordable.
The SliderONE offers just 6″ (15cm) of camera travel and supports camera setups up to 20 lbs (9kg). On the underside it has a friction dial on one end, and a lock on the other.
You’d be forgiven for any apprehension as to whether 6 inches is long enough (steady), but in many shooting situations as the promo video above has proved this length will do just fine. The key is using parallax, layering your shot with a fore, middle and background will create the illusion that the camera is moving much further than it is; a technique you should be using regardless of your slider length.
At 9″ in physical length the SliderONE is tiny, it’s incredibly compact and lightweight weighing only 1.2lbs (just over half a kg), for these reasons I can see this making it’s way into many travelling filmmakers kit bags.
Both the sledge and underside of the SliderONE feature a single 3/8″ thread for mounting to tripod legs and heads. I’d personally prefer more, a couple of threads on the bottom and a cheese plate array on the top would ensure accessories mate securely without risk of spinning loose. This I feel would help contribute further to classifying the SliderONE as a professional tool. However most entry level support adheres to single thread mounting so I can appreciate the lack of these features.
The SliderONE will retail for €239 ex VAT (just over $250).
