Hands-On with the Rotolight Titan X2

The Rotolight Titan X2 is the latest RGBWW LED fixture that was announced just before the IBC 2019. We had the chance to take a look at this exciting 2×1 LED light that can electronically adjust the light’s diffusion.

Rotolight Titan X2 Features

The Titan X2 is Rotolight’s newest and brightest 2×1 RGBWW Soft Led light to date. For full details, you can take a look at our full initial article here.

The light features impressive functionalities, including being much brighter than the ARRI Skypanel, and ergonomic LCD controls.

The most notable inclusion is SmartSoft technology; this allows the user to adjust the light’s diffusion, focus and spread electronically.

You can change the SmartSoft settings and every other function of the Titan X2 directly on the fixture via the built-in LCD touchscreen display on the back, or via:

• DMX wired and wireless.
• Wirelessly via Bluetooth (for app control), with integrated LumenRadio compatibility.
• Elinchrom Skyport flash receiver.
• There is also an RJ45 port.

The Titan X2 can reach color temperatures from 2800K up to 10,000K with a claimed CRI of >95 and a TLCI of 98. Since it is an RGBWW light, it covers a wide range of 16.7 million colors with more than 1300 built-in color gels. Like every RGBWW light these days, there are built-in CineSFX presets like Fire, Lightning, TV, Gunshot, Paparazzi and so on. Finally, the light is flicker-free, and you can dim it from 0 to 100%.

The Titan X2 is not entirely weatherproof, with an only IP20 rating. A rain cover is available as an accessory. Talking about accessories, you can also purchase additional lighting modifiers from DoP choice.

Three versions of the light featuring various mounting options are available, from studio versions with a pole yoke to a “Kinoflo style” swan neck, and a more traditional standard yoke version.

The build quality of the Rotolight Titan X2 seems extremely good and very robust, it’s made of very rigid plastic with metal handles. There are two fans on the back of the unit that you can’t feel/hear from what we saw.

Pricing and Availability

The Rotolight Titan X2 should start shipping in November 2019. You can already pre-order it starting at $4699.00/€4003.01. I think it’s an excellent product for rental houses or production companies looking for bright and versatile light.
