Hovervolt’s D-Tap Voltmeters are compact and lightweight voltage meters that can be useful for monitoring the remaining battery life when powering your camera rig using V-mount or Gold mount bricks. It features an easily readable display available in amber, red, blue, and green. Pricing starts at €26.
While some V-Lock/Gold mount power solutions can communicate with the camera to display voltage or remaining running time, others don’t. That’s the case of non-approved battery solutions for RED KOMODO and V-RAPTOR, for example, and the reason I always carry a D-Tap meter in my camera bag when powering my KOMODO rig using the Tilta V-mount Battery Plate Adapter.
Although most V-Lock and Gold mount batteries feature a built-in status display, more often than not, it isn’t easily accessible or readable. And that’s exactly when a D-Tap meter can come in handy. So let’s take a closer look at these new accessories from the newborn Italian company Hovervolt!
These new D-Tap accessories from Hovervolt are tiny voltage meters that can be plugged into a D-Tap battery, battery plate, or splitter to provide live battery status and thus prevent the camera and the connected accessories from accidentally shutting down.
Their design looks similar to that of the more expensive MUTINY “V-TAP” D-Tap Voltage Meter. Both devices feature a built-in digital display to showcase the battery’s voltage. However, while MUTINY’s display only comes in green, Hovervolt offers 4 color options for different use cases:
Finally, the voltmeter features a little hook, so it can be safely attached to your camera rig or inside your camera bag.
The new Hovervolt D-Tap voltmeters are now available to order from the manufacturer’s website. All display color options share the same official retail price of €26 (plus shipping), which is almost half the cost of a MUTINY V-TAP. Moreover, the company also offers a 4-piece bundle for €83.
