KipperTie has announced two new PL mount adapters for Sony’s E-Mount cameras. The KipperTie Revolva E/PL mount adapter provides an integrated ND system and retails for €918. The second option is the Adapta E/PL adapter, which is identical to the first model, but comes without the ability to use filter cartridges. The Adapta E/PL retails for €572. Let’s have a look at what these adapters can do!
With the Revolva E/PL and Adapta E/PL mount adapters, KipperTie is trying to target Sony FX3 and Sony FX30 users, although the adapters can virtually fit any E-mount camera. So if you own any of these systems, they can be a viable solution for mounting PL glass on your camera body.
The KipperTie Revolva E/PL lets you use your PL glass on a Sony E-Mount, while also integrating a ND filter system. Filter cartridges are loaded with a four-position rotating filter and are offered in two different ND filter strengths and different qualities. You can purchase them either in standard quality or in a higher and more expensive geared version.
KipperTie claims that the ND cartridges are using full-spectrum neutral density filters. This means that the visible and near-IR light is controlled and reduced to the same degree. Therefore, color shifts, otherwise caused by invisible IR pollution, should be minimized. As always, the amount of color shift must be tested in the field before this can be confirmed.
The Revolva adapter requires at least one cartridge to function but is compatible with all pre-existing KipperTie cartridges. Unlike some other solutions on the market, for example, the MEIKE Drop-in Filter PL Adapters, the KipperTie doesn’t use variable NDs; it has classic fixed ND strengths.
Included is an additional support bracket designed to match the FX3 and FX30 body size. It allows the PL mount to be tied rigidly to the camera and provides 1/4″-20 and 3/8″-16 fittings. The PL mounting ring can be optionally expanded with a pair of grip tabs, each of which can be attached in different positions.
The Adapta E/PL has basically the same design as the Revolva E/PL, except without the ability to use filter cartridges. It is simply a mechanical E/PL mount adapter.
Just like the Revolva E/PL, it comes with an additional support bracket that was engineered to match the FX3 and FX30 body size. This allows the PL mount to be tied solidly to the camera, and it also comes with 1/4″-20 and 3/8″-16 fittings.
The Revolva E/PL mount adapter, the Adapta E/PL mount adapter, and the KipperTie Revolva cartridges are now available for purchase. Pricing is as follows:
