During CES 2024, Lexar announced two new 1TB CFexpress 4.0 memory cards: a Type B model in the Diamond series and a Type A model in the Gold series. The Lexar 1TB CFexpress Type B Diamond is one of the fastest memory cards in its class, with read speeds up to 3.600MB/s and write speeds of 3.300MB/s. So, let’s take a closer look at these!
The recent CFexpress 4.0 standard update was unveiled in August 2023. This new version doubles transfer speeds over its predecessor, with maximum theoretical read and write speeds for Type B memory cards up to 4GB/s.
Over the last few months, various manufacturers, including OWC and Nextorage, unveiled CFexpress 4.0 Type B memory cards. However, no camera on the market currently fully supports and takes full advantage of the new CFexpress 4.0 standard. Nonetheless, since these cards are backward compatible with previous CFexpress versions, you can benefit from the improved transfer speeds when backing up footage and also future-proof your investment.
Memory card specialist Lexar has been creating content-creator-oriented solutions for over two decades. The company is joining the CFexpress 4.0 bandwagon by announcing the Lexar CFexpress 4.0 Type B Diamond and CFexpress 4.0 Type A Gold.
During CES 2024, Lexar showcased their 1TB CFexpress 4.0 Type B Diamond and Type A Gold memory cards. Both cards use the latest PCIe Gen 4 bus to achieve blazing-fast transfer speeds.
Let’s start with the most used kind of CFexpress memory card: the Type B version. The CFexpress 4.0 Type B Diamond memory cards can reach impressive transfer speeds: read speeds up to 3.600MB/s and write speeds up to 3.300MB/s. As usual with the new CFexpress 4.0 memory cards, these speeds will be more than enough to capture 8K RAW footage and any photo format/resolution you can think of.
For Sony users that use CFexpress Type A memory cards, the Lexar CFexpress 4.0 Gold series will also give you impressive write speeds of up to 1650MB/s and read speeds of up to 1800MB/s.
Currently, there is no information regarding pricing or availability for either of these memory cards.
