Libec recently released the JB40, a compact jib that can be mounted to a 75/100mm bowl tripod very quickly and that can take payloads up to 20Kg/44lbs. Let’s take a closer look at it!
Libec has been manufacturing tripods/gimbals/camera bags for 70 years now. Recently, we saw a couple of new products from the Japanese manufacturer, including the NX lineup of camera tripods and the REC-LA remote for Atomos recorders.
The new Libec JB40 replaces the JB-30 that was introduced nearly ten years ago. This new model features the same 20kg/44lbs payload capacity, and it weighs the same at 10kg/22lbs for the arm only.
The concept of the JB lineup of jibs is that you can mount them on your regular set of 100mm bowl sticks. However, you better have a beefy set of legs that can handle the total amount of weight that can quickly tick the scale at 40/50Kg if you have a heavy camera package that requires many counterweights to be balanced.
At the end of the JB40 jib arm, you can mount any 100mm bowl tripod head, but the kit also comes with a 75mm to 100mm bowl adapter.
The Libec JB40 has a maximum range of 100cm/39.5″ when fully extended and a minimum length of 63cm/24.8″. For most situations, this travel distance should be enough, and from my experience, I rarely needed more range, except for live events or specific shots.
Libec also redesigned the weight bar compared to the former JB-30’s Screw-in type. The Libec JB40 now has a new Plug-in type bar: insert the bar in place, align the locating pins, and start loading your weights. Once you’re done, simply screw the wingnut in place to lock the weights in place.
The Libec JB40 is available now in two versions. You can order the jib arm only that comes in a carrying case for $2129.00/€2107.
Another bundle that includes a tripod, dolly, weight set and all the cases is also available for $3469.00/€3476.

What do you think about this compact jib? Do you often use jib? Or did you replace your dolly and jib with a gimbal? Don’t hesitate to let us know in the comments below!
