If you want to control any of your DJI drones or gimbals you’ll need the DJI Go app. Or do you? Litchi for DJI is an alternative app for controlling almost all DJI drones and the latest Nov 2020 update adds support for the DJI Mavic Mini. Let’s have a look!
The 2019 DJI Mavic Mini (read our review here) is a very capable, yet affordable and tiny little drone for casual flights and occasional shoots. Litchi for DJI now supports it and even offers features that DJI reserves for its bigger brothers.
Litchi for DJI now supports almost every drone made by DJI, with the exception of the new Mavic Air 2 (review here) and Mini 2 (review here). For these, Litchi has to wait for DJI to release a SDK, probably later in 2021.
Litchi for DJI has come a long way and they kept adding features and support for more and more models of DJIs lineup. The new version 2.9.1 (iOS) / 4.18.0 (Android) adds support for the original DJI Mavic Mini drone as well as fixing some bugs and improving on existing features.
The cool thing about Litchi for DJI is that the app adds featured to drones which normaly wouldn’t support these features. For example is the tracking feature something DJI only enables on higher end models but with Litchi you can use it with almost every drone supported by the app. Another example is the Auto Exposure Bracketing (AEB) mode.
Another very useful feature is the so-called Litchi Mission Hub: A Google Maps-fueled online tool which allows for detailed pre-planned flights worldwide. Just add waypoints and other relevant data and the app will guide your drone along the pre-defined way. Very neat!
Litchi’s Nov 2020 update brings the following features and improvements:Version 2.9.1 (iOS) Litchi for DJI Mavic / Phantom / Inspire / Spark:
Version 4.18.0 (Android) Litchi for DJI Mavic / Phantom / Inspire / Spark:
Litchi is not a free app, it’s around $24 and it’s availabe on Apples App Store as well as Google Play Store.
