Lupo Superpanel Full Color 30 – Skypanel Alternative?

Lupo has extended its LED soft panel lineup with the Superpanel Full Color 30, an RGB version of the high-powered, low-cost fixtures.

We’ve covered the Lupo lights quite extensively in previous posts. Most recently the Superpanel Soft review. If you’re not familiar with the line up, Lupo make a series of high-powered, “oversized 1X1” LED panels. They are dimmable, (in most cases) bi-color, AC/DC powered, have good color rendition (96 CRI/ 98 TLCI) and are relatively cheap and lightweight.

The new Superpanel Full Color 30 is the RGB version and is designed as a potential alternative to the ARRI Skypanel S30-C.

Skypanel Alternative?

The Superpanel Full Color 30 has variable temperature control from 2700-10000K with green/magenta offset, it has a HSI (Hue, Saturation and Intensity) mode plus RGBW. There are also presets for certain gels and special effects including strobe, party, police car and disco.

CRI is 96, the DMX module is included and is 8 or 16 bit.

It consumes 200W of power and can run off 14.8V batteries, meaning single V-locks will be compatible.

It weighs 3.7 kg – just a little bit heavier than a standard 1X1 panel.

To be compared to such an industry stalwart like the Skypanel you need to match up in every area plus offer a little more.

The Superpanel Full Color 30 does a pretty good job on paper in like-for-like features, with its little-bit-more aspect being the price, power requirements and weight.

Price is 3 times less than the S30-C and is almost half the weight (and that’s not including the power module).

With weight loss will no doubt come build quality. I can’t speak for the Lupo Superpanel Full Color, but Skypanels are built like an absolute tank.

The power consumption will please a lot of people. The ability to run off standard simple V-lock will make it much easier for compact setups.

Whilst hire companies will appreciate the extra build quality, known quality and brand assurances from the Skypanel, I can see the power, lightweight design and cost making the Superpanel Full Color 30 an interesting prospect for owner operators.

It’s hard to keep track of these figures one product to another; manufactures all chop and change metric/imperial measurements plus differ in distances.

Here are a few comparisons for you to make it easier:

• The Superpanel Full Color 30 is slightly more powerful than Lupos Supersoft Line, whilst substantially lower in output than the original Superpanel.

So when comparing Lupo lines you basically trade off the power of the original panel for color options on the Full Color 30 or a slightly softer cast with the Supersoft.

• In comparison to other brands – the Superpanel Full Color 30 is half the lux rating of the Astra 3x Bicolor (industry standard 1×1) at 10 feet, and similar to the Skypanel S30-C.

Pricing is below and falls in line with the current Lupo panels, offering quite a feature-packed light in the sub $1500 fixture range.
