MUTINY have extended their mounting options for their NANO and NANO+ IO Port Expanders with a dedicated BP plate mount. It allows users to mount a tiny breakout box directly to the back of the RED KOMODO’s body.
American manufacturer MUTINY offers a whole range of accessories built around RED’s camera ecosystem, including the V-RAPTOR IO Port Expander, a power module for the KOMODO, as well as micro recording buttons and a standard breakout box that are compatible with both cameras.
Moreover, they are the creators of the world’s two smallest I/O expanders for RED KOMODO and V-RAPTOR – NANO and NANO+. With the new dedicated BP plate mount, these modules are now getting a minor, but very welcome add-on, especially for gimbal users. So let’s take a quick look!
To sum it up very quickly, the MUTINY NANO and NANO+ modules are two RED-approved sub-50g modules (the NANO model is only 22g!) that connect to the RED KOMODO and V-RAPTOR’s EXT port, adding the following I/O connections:
So far, the company has offered 3 interchangeable mounting solutions for the NANO and NANO+: a standard flat mount, a 90-degree mount, and a multi-angle 15mm rod mount bracket. These are now joined by a BP-style mount plate that slides directly into one of the KOMODO’s dual BP battery slots.
This provides an even more streamlined mounting solution since a camera cage or rod is no longer required to rig the modules to the camera body. Thus, the new BP plate mount is ideal for drone or gimbal operators looking to fly their KOMODOs “naked” without compromising on weight optimization or I/O ports.
Once attached to the camera, the overall result looks somewhat similar to the Wooden Camera B-Box for RED KOMODO, but in a lighter package and with the added benefit of a more modular design.
This new BP mounting bracket plate option now comes with the MUTINY NANO and NANO+ mounting bundles, which retail for $428 and $458 respectively. If you already own one of these breakout boxes, you can purchase the new BP plate as a standalone item for $40.For more information, please visit MUTINY’s website here.
