A few days ago, Canon released an update on the status of recently placed orders for the Canon EOS R3 and the RF 14-35mm lens. The shipping stage of these products might still be delayed for over half a year. Furthermore, although to a lesser extent, even the newborn Canon R5 C and other lenses might be affected by this delay.
Back in December, we reported about a potential shipping delay for the company’s new flagship mirrorless camera, the Canon EOS R3. In the meantime, the Japanese manufacturer introduced a new model to their Cinema Line, the Canon R5 C, as well as two super telephoto lenses.
However, in a recent update the company informed that, after almost three months, things haven’t changed much. As a matter of fact, even the new products might suffer from shipping delays.
On March 2nd, the supply announcement (Japanese only) on the “Apology and Guidance” section of the Japanese Canon website has been updated. In this communication, the company estimates that new orders for the Canon EOS R3 body and the RF 14-35mm lens might still require over 6 months to be delivered.
According to the manufacturer, the pandemic and the worldwide chip shortage aren’t the only reasons for this situation. In fact, Canon admits they were caught by surprise by a huge, unexpected demand for these products.
It’s worth noticing that this announcement reflects a widespread situation in our industry. Thus, we must respect Canon’s apologies and their promise to work hard to fulfill new orders as fast as possible.
However, the freshest news is that other products might have the same issue, although with shorter waiting times. In fact, the list includes the brand new EOS R5 C, RF 800mm f/5.6 L IS USM and RF 1200mm f/8 L IS USM.
In fact, shipping the following products might take “longer than usual”:
