Samyang adds the 20mm F1.8/T1.9 lens to the VDSLR line up of manual photography and cinematography lenses.
Since the Samyang 135mm cine lens was launched last year as part of the VDSLR line up, things have been quiet in this product range as the new, higher-end XEEN lenses have taken the centre of attention. It seems, though, that they haven’t forgotten about its highly successful range of cine and photography optics, having just introduced of the Samyang 20mm F1.8 (T1.9) ED AS USM lens for full frame cameras.
The new lens offers an ultra wide angle (94.8 degrees) perspective that lands between the common 16 and 24mm focal lengths. It’s an interesting choice, as current lens choices are often limited unless using a wide angle zoom or photography lens. It is often difficult to achieve the desired wide angle perspective with a 24mm or wider lens without barrel distortion or shooting with a deep depth of field, so it will be interesting to see what this model offers.
The lens is available in many common mounts, including Nikon, Canon, Pentax K, Sony A and E, and Micro Four Thirds. There is no firm information on pricing yet, but as the lens is part of the affordable VDSLR line up, we would expect it to be around the $600.00 mark. Check out all the info from Samyang here!
With IBC around the corner, there will hopefully be a model on display at the show to check out. Watch this space!
