Today, at 10:00 EST (15:00 GMT, 24:00 JST) Sony announced the new Sony Alpha 1 full-frame mirrorless camera with 8K video as well as the new Sony Xperia PRO phone.
When it comes to new Sony camera announcements, last year was quite interesting, even despite the COVID-19 pandemic. It proves once again that manufacturers’ product roadmaps are planned more than one year in advance. In May 2020, the Sony ZV-1 compact camera for bloggers was announced (we reviewed it here). In July, Sony finally announced the long-awaited Sony a7S III (you can take a look at our review and lab test). Later, in September the Sony a7C was announced – a camera that basically squeezed the popular a7 III into a smaller body with a flip-out screen. Last, but definitely not least, in November 2020 Sony announced the FX6 full-frame cinema camera (check our review here).
A few days ago, Sony teased a new product from the Sony Alpha line. The announcement will go live today at 10:00 EST (15:00 GMT, 24:00 JST) on Alpha Universe.

Sony has been very mysterious about the new product. The Alpha line hints at a new mirrorless camera. The community has, of course, already some theories about what this could be. The only hint we have is the somewhat odd-sounding phrase from Sony – “The one never seen”. From all the speculations I have read online, I quite like the theory that this might be a new Sony Alpha camera that can capture light beyond the visible spectrum – both infrared and ultraviolet. That would also explain the image with both red and blue streaks. What do you think?
We will, of course, monitor the live event and bring you all the information as soon as it gets released. Stay tuned to CineD!
UPDATE: Sony announced the new Sony Alpha 1 full-frame mirrorless camera with 8K30 video along with the new Sony Xperia PRO phone.
