At NAB 2023, OSEE announced a new 5-inch on-camera HDMI monitor called Lilmon 5. This 5.5” monitor has a resolution of 1920×1080, a maximum brightness of 1000 nits, and a page-based software called Swift OS. Once available, it will retail for only $189.
Chinese manufacturer OSEE is well known for producing feature-rich yet affordable monitors. Their lineup includes the extremely bright G7 and T7 field monitors as well as the Megamon 15 production monitor (our review here), just to name a few.
On the show floor at NAB 2023, we stopped by the company’s booth to meet Zoe Wang – Marketing Manager at OSEE – who walked us through the main features of their upcoming Lilmon 5. Let’s take a closer look!
As the name suggests, the OSEE Lilmon 5 is a little entry-level monitor that is mainly designed for use with compact mirrorless cameras. The device features a 5.5” touchscreen IPS display with a resolution of 1920×1080, a contrast ratio of 1200:1, and a maximum brightness of 1000 nits. In my experience, 1000 nits are often not enough to label a monitor as “daylight-viewable”, so I have to disagree with OSEE on this point.
The Lilmon 5 is an HDMI-only monitor. It has single HDMI in/out connectors and supports 4K video signals. Of course, the video input gets downscaled to fit the 1080p resolution panel.
The monitor runs a proprietary page-based software called Swift OS, which is clearly inspired by the industry-leading PageOS by SmallHD. You can swipe between different pages, each of which supports up to 8 monitoring tools, including focus peaking, false color, zebra, waveform, histogram, and more.
Users can load custom LUTs and even calibrate the display themselves using the X-Rite i1 monitor calibration device paired with OSEE’s calibration software. Finally, the Lilmon 5 can be powered using Sony NP-F style batteries or a dedicated DC in the power port.
According to Zoe, the OSEE Lilmon 5 on-camera monitor should be available during the second half of 2023. The price point is pretty aggressive since the monitor should retail for just $189.
What do you think of the upcoming Lilmon 5? Do you think this could be your next 5-inch on-camera monitor? Let us know your thoughts in the comment section below!
