A tool used for filming is just a tool. Well, like many things in life, that’s a yes and a no…Mirrorless cameras (and DSLRs with video capabilities before that) significantly impacted our industry; yet, some will prefer not to use them on set for a variety of reasons – be it a “prestige thing”, or simply the fear of not being looked at as “professional enough”. These, next to more practical thoughts like usability, or the possibility of earning more money when offering to use a dedicated video/cinema camera, users will find what works for their production needs best.  

Here at CineD, we love working with them all. Mirrorless hybrids next to their dedicated video/cinema siblings’ cameras, bring them on! In our team, Johnnie still prefers working with compact tools. Those perfectly fit his body size next to his belief that a “compact camera can always be enlarged by beefing it up with some accessories, but not vice-versa”. Nino on the other hand, moved forward and for his professional work, loves working with large sensor cameras that are “video dedicated”. Of course, both gentlemen are using the “other tools” as well, but in general, this is their preference. Other distinguished members of our CineD team are working with mixed tools, too, but lean toward working with dedicated video-centric cameras.
