Red has announced shipment of their REDRAY Player. The device supports native 4K video or upscaled HD, allowing full 4096×2160 playback.

The REDRAY sits between your UHDTV and content.  You connect via USB, network or SD, then output via HDMI (1X 1.4 HDMI, or 3X 1.3 HDMI) to your 4K ready device.

It supports 48-60FPS in 3D  and will be controllable by REDRAY iOS app.

This is further development of 4K support for the end devices, we saw it from Apple’s announcement earlier in the month also. With the amount of companies pushing 4K acquisition, it’s only natural progression that we’ll be starting to see devices that actually make use of it.
