SanDisk Professional has just released a new rugged portable SSD: the SanDisk Professional PRO-G40. This IP68-rated drive is water/dust resistant, has one Thunderbolt 3/USB 3.2 Gen 2 dual-mode port, and can reach speeds up to 2700MB/s read and 1900MB/s write. It’s available in 1TB and 2TB versions. So, let’s take a closer look at this compact and impact-resistant drive for filmmakers on the road!
SanDisk Professional, previously known as G-Technology, specializes in memory cards and storage solutions for content creators requiring robust products with no compromises regarding transfer speeds.
During NAB 2022, SanDisk Professional released the PRO-BLADE series SSD modular ecosystem, and are now back with a more “traditional” portable SSD: the PRO-G40 SSD.
The SanDisk Professional PRO-G40 is a compact and lightweight portable SSD mainly made out of aluminum with dimensions of only 4.36 x 2.28 x 0.47in/11.1 x 5.8 x 1.2cm for a weight of 0.27lbs/121g.
The drive’s enclosure is IP-68 rated, which means it is dust and water-resistant. Furthermore, SanDisk Professional claims it can survive a 3m/9.8ft drop. Lastly, with a 4.000lb crush resistance, a small car could probably roll over it without damaging it.
At the bottom, the PRO-G40 features only one input/output dual-mode port: Thunderbolt 3 (40Gbps) and USB-C 3.2 Gen 2 (10Gbps).
Talking about data transfer rates, thanks to an internal NVMe SSD, the PRO-G40 can reach read speeds up to 2700MB/S in Thunderbolt 3 and 1050MB/s in USB-C. For write speeds, you’re looking at 1900MB/s in Thunderbolt 3 and 1000MB/s in USB-C.
The SanDisk Professional PRO-G40 is available now. The 1TB version retails for $299.99, while the 2TB one is $449.99.
