SIRUI recently released a versatile cage for the Sony FX3 and FX30 that can be used as a full camera cage or half cage when combined with the Sony XLR top handle. The cage features multiple 1/4″-20 and 3/8″-16 mounting points, a cold shoe mount, NATO rails on top and sides of the cage, and comes with a removable HDMI cable clamp. So let’s take a closer look at it!
SIRUI is well-known for their lineup of affordable anamorphic lenses, like the 1.33x anamorphic lineup for APS-C cameras and, more recently, the SIRUI Venus 1.6x anamorphic full-frame lenses. In addition, the company entered the camera accessories market recently with a cage for the Panasonic LUMIX S5II, and are now back with another cage for the Sony FX3 and FX30.
The SIRUI cage for the Sony FX3/FX30 – both cameras have the same camera body – is entirely made of aluminum and weighs only 150g/0.33lbs. This cage consists of two main parts: a half cage that wraps around the camera and a removable top part that screws to the camera’s top and the side of the cage.
The cage attaches very securely to your camera with three 1/4″-20 screws: two on the sides and one at the bottom. This accessory does not add a lot of bulk to the compact Sony FX3/FX30, so you can leave it attached at all times. Also, the included wrist strap should help you shoot longer and bring some comfort to your camera rig.
At the bottom of the cage, you’ll find six 1/4″-20 mounting points, a magnetic screwdriver, and a cutout for the camera’s battery door. The cage has a built-in Arca-style quick-release plate, and it comes with a Manfrotto-style quick-release plate. Of course, you can also mount whatever camera plate you use at the bottom.
On the left and right sides of the cage, you’ll find multiple 1/4″-20 and 3/8″-16 mounting points with locating pins. In addition, both sides are NATO rails so that you can mount accessories directly to them. Lastly, the cage comes with a removable HDMI cable clamp, which is always handy and can save you the cost of an expensive repair.
The top of the half cage features a cold shoe mount. The removable full camera cage bracket is a NATO rail with 1/4″-20 and 3/8″-16 mounting points.
The SIRUI cage for the Sony FX3/FX30 is available now for $69. A kit with the same top handle as the Panasonic S5II cage is also available for $99. Moreover, as a CineD reader you can benefit from an extra 5% off by using the discount code “CINEDCC” upon placing the order from the manufacturer’s website. The discount code also applies to the new Panasonic LUMIX S5II/S5IIX camera cage.
