SmallHD recently released a new firmware for most of its on-camera and production monitors: PageOS v5.2.1. The v5.2.1 is minor and came out a couple of weeks after the initial v5.2.0 version. PageOS v5.2 fixes numerous bugs and adds new features, like the support for the Shotover addon on 4K Production Monitors. So let’s take a closer look at everything new!
SmallHD first introduced PageOS 5 Beta 1 back in July of this year. During IBC 2022, the company introduced three new 5-inch on-camera monitors: the Indie 5, Cine 5, and Ultra 5, which all feature the PageOS v5 operating system. Here’s our video coverage of those monitors, in case you missed it.
SmallHD is well-known for releasing firmware updates regularly that add new features to their products based on user feedback: PageOS v5.2 is now available with a couple of interesting new possibilities and bug fixes.
First, let’s start with SmallHD PageOS v5.2 compatibility. Indeed, the new update is compatible with most on-camera and production monitors from the company. However, it is still incompatible with the DSMC3 RED Touch, the Action 5, and all “legacy” monitors like the DP1, DP6, DP4, AC7, and DP7-PRO.
Furthermore, SmallHD now excludes the Focus OLED, Focus OLED SDI, and Focus Pro OLED on-camera monitors, which can still be used with firmware v5.0.1.
With PageOS v5.2, SmallHD added some new features, including support for the Shotover addon on 4K Production monitors. Also, the Shotover addon is back on the 1300/1700/2400 series Production monitors.
Also, you’ll now be able to change the Page animation speed. To do so, go into Settings-> Interface-> Pages. The options are 1x, 2x, 3x, and instant.
Last but not least, Smart 5 monitors now have a Max Bright mode, which is handy in fast-moving shooting environments.
Every firmware update is an excellent occasion to correct and fix bugs. Here is the complete changelog:
The SmallHD PageOS v5.2 firmware is a free update for all existing users. You can download it now on SmallHD’s website here.
