SmallRig recently announced two new “Compact” and “Advanced” V-Mount battery mounting systems designed for mirrorless cameras. Both versions feature an L-shaped Arca-Swiss baseplate with an adjustable V-Mount battery plate. The Advanced version includes an additional chest pad and a set of 15mm rods. So let’s take a closer look at these lightweight battery mounting systems!
Chinese third-party accessories manufacturer SmallRig has a good reputation for creating budget-friendly cages, rigging accessories, and, more recently, LED lights, wireless microphone systems, and lens control systems.
SmallRig is now back with an interesting compact battery mounting system that allows you to mount V-Mount batteries onto your mirrorless camera without going the full-cage route.
The SmallRig Compact V-Mount Battery Mounting System comprises three parts made entirely of aluminum: an Arca-Swiss baseplate, a sliding/tilting V-Mount battery plate, and a V-shape wedge.
The entire system weighs 230g/8.1oz, which is relatively lightweight and has a maximum payload capacity of 5kg/11 lbs. According to SmallRig, it is compatible with cameras that are less than 11.1cm thick, such as the Sony FX3/FX30, Sony a7R IV/a7S III/a7C, or Canon EOS R5 C/R5/R6/R6 MarkII/R7/R10/R/RP.
The quick-release baseplate attaches to the bottom of your camera via an Arca-Swiss plate. At the bottom of the baseplate, you’ll find another Arca-Swiss plate to attach the SmallRig Compact Battery Mounting System onto a tripod/shoulder rig, for example. This bottom plate also features 1/4″-20 and 3/8″-16 mounting points to attach your own quick-release plate if needed.
A tilting and sliding V-Mount battery plate attaches to the baseplate. The plate has a 180° tilting range and a 3.6cm/1.4in sliding range to fit various mirrorless or small cinema cameras.
This entire tilt and slide range of motion is handy for packing the Compact V-Mount Battery Mounting System flat in your camera bag. The tilting capabilities also allow you to quickly flip your mirrorless camera’s built-in screen in/out.
Next is the Advanced V-Mount Battery Mounting System that adds two 12cm/4.7in long 15mm rods and chest support to the kit.
The chest support attaches to the two 15mm rods that screw into the V-Mount battery plate. Also, the chest support can be adjusted slightly back and forth if needed.
Both versions are available for preorder now and should start shipping next month. The Compact V-Mount Battery Mounting System (codename: 4064) is $84.90, while the Advanced kit (codename: 4063) is $119.00.

What do you think about these new V-Mount battery mounting systems? Do you prefer a traditional full rig 15mm battery mounting system, or does a lightweight option make sense for your shooting style? Don’t hesitate to let us know in the comments down below!
