SmallRig recently launched a crowdfunding campaign on Kickstarter for a new foldable smartphone rig system: the SmallRig P20. This compact accessory allows you to shoot horizontally and vertically with nearly every smartphone on the market. Furthermore, it features a 1/4 “-20 tripod/accessory threaded hole and two cold shoe mounts to attach small lights or microphones to your rig. Let’s take a closer look at this affordable $24 smartphone rig!
SmallRig is well-known for its affordable camera cages and rigging accessories. The company recently started exploring new markets with microphones, LED lights, and even lens control systems. However, SmallRig continues to release mighty entry-level accessories like the Octopus VT-09 tripod for smartphones and vlogging cameras.
This time, SmallRig chose the crowdfunding platform Kickstarter to launch the successor of its P10 compact and foldable smartphone rigging system: the P20.
The SmallRig P20 is a foldable smartphone rig mainly made of aluminum and weighs 300g/0.66 lbs. When unfolded the P20 measures 18.2x5x2.4cm with two built-in handles. The extra weight and separation between your hands should help capture smoother and more stable footage.
At the center of the SmallRig P20 is a rotatable smartphone mount. This expandable grip opens from 3.1 to 4 inches/7.8 to 10.1cm and should fit most smartphones on the market with a depth under 0.5 inches/1.27cm.
Above the smartphone mount is a 1/4 “-20 threaded hole that can be used as a tripod mount or accessory slot.
Last but not least, there are two cold shoe mounts on top of the two handles. They can be used to attach accessories to your rig, like a microphone, battery bank, a small LED light, etc.
The SmallRig P20 is available for pre-order now on Kickstarter, starting at $24 for super early backers. The crowdfunding campaign ends on February 2nd. The foldable smartphone rig should begin shipping in March 2023.
At the end of every crowdfunding-related article, we remind you to please be aware of the risks when backing a project on a crowdfunding platform. Please read the platform’s use and remember that there can be significant delays when delivering the product. Some projects even don’t get delivered at all.
What do you think about this foldable smartphone rig? Do you think it is a handy add-on accessory for smartphone filmmaking? Don’t hesitate to let us know in the comments down below!
