SmallRig recently released the RM01 Mini LED Light Kit that includes 3 tiny fixtures to achieve a three-point lighting setup. Ideal when shooting small objects and in narrow scenarios, this little light kit offers professional modifiers for shaping light. The kit is now available for $109.90.
Chinese company SmallRig became famous for their quality and affordable rigging products. However, by introducing the SmallRig RM01 Mini LED Light Kit, they are now trying to target a very specific niche of the market. Let’s take a closer look at these tiny little lights.
The SmallRig RM01 Mini LED Light Kit consists of 3 little daylight-balanced (5600K ± 200K) LED fixtures that are even smaller than a ping pong ball and serve the purpose of creating a three-point lighting setup. It can come in handy when shooting small objects, as is the case with stop-motion or Macro photography scenarios.
Also, the lights can be touch-adjusted with 4 steps of intensity (20, 50, 70, or 100%) and, according to SmallRig, they score 95+ of CRI value and 96 for TLCI measurements.
Each light features a rugged body that is rain and dust-resistant. The fixtures are extremely small and light: they measure 38 x 38 x 36 mm in size and only weigh 63g each. A matte black finishing minimizes light spills and provides an elegant design.
A 1/4”-20 screw hole allows the lights to be mounted on the included mini tripods or rigged according to your liking. Furthermore, a dual cold shoe mount provides further rigging options.
Moreover, the lights have a built-in 800mAh lithium battery that should provide up to 300 minutes of working time.
Despite the small size, this mini kit is designed like a professional lighting setup. In fact, a set of light modifiers and color filters is included in the kit to allow more control over your lighting and creative effects.
Light modifiers include a silicone light diffusor, a honeycomb grid, a 4-leaf barn door, a round snoot, and 8 different color filters.
SmallRig RM01 Mini LED Light Kit includes:
The SmallRig RM01 Mini LED Light Kit responds to the needs of a very specific niche of our industry, but it looks like a fun setup to experiment with. The kit is already available for purchase at B&H and CVP at an affordable price of $109.90.
