Sony has just introduced version 1.06 of its Camera Remote Software Development Kit. It adds compatibility for selected Sony Cinema Line cameras and brings new features for drone applications.
Sony’s popular Cinema Line of cameras recently grew with the introduction of the FX30, and so did the number of creative possibilities offered by this extremely capable family of imaging products.
To fully exploit the potential of their cameras, Sony allows third parties to access its Camera Remote SDK. This enables software developers to code tailor-made apps for a series of applications, ranging from imaging to aerial work. So let’s take a closer look at what’s new with Version 1.06.
The list of cameras supported by Sony Camera Remote already includes many popular mirrorless models, such as the A1, A9 Mark II, A7 IV, A7r IV, A7C, and the low-light king, the Sony A7s III. With this 1.06 update, the Sony Cinema Line FX6, FX3, and FX30 cameras join their Alpha Series siblings.
Furthermore, up to five Sony FX6 units can now be controlled in parallel and users can access basic camera control functions through the Content Mobile Browser application. For example, you can now remotely trigger start/stop recording, or adjust the iris, shutter, gain, ND, zoom level, and focus distance.
The new Sony Camera Remote SDK also brings new features for inspection and drone applications. For example, a Drone GPS sync (Location Information Transfer) function has been added and allows to create a real-time correlation between GPS info and still images.
“Uptake of the Sony Camera Remote SDK increases every quarter and the breadth of companies with whom we are having conversations to utilise it, is both fascinating and professionally satisfying. We are seeing end use applications that are truly benefiting from the industry leading quality of Sony cameras and the enhanced video functionality of Version 1.06 means that we can continue this momentum. We are fully committed to enhancing the SDK experience and working with both existing and new partners to deliver true market innovation.”Yasuo Baba, Director, Digital Imaging, Sony Europe BV
