Syrp Genie Micro is a smart remote for mirrorless and DSLR cameras. It allows control of the camera’s ISO, aperture, shutter speed, it can start/stop recording or take photos (including HDR mode), and control timelapse function. Syrp Genie Micro is available now for $160.
The Genie-branded product line from Syrp (since 2019 part of Vitec Imaging Group) includes a wide variety of motion control devices that can be combined to create a more complex camera moves. Last year, the company released the second generation of its Genie Mini and they also launched the Syrp Genie II App to control all Genie products. Recently, Syrp released a new compact device that can wirelessly control camera settings – Syrp Genie Micro. Let’s take a short look at it.
As Syrp claims, the Genie Micro is an all-in-one smart remote for mirrorless and DSLR cameras, allowing users to control a camera from the Syrp smartphone app.
To operate, the device can be simply attached to the camera’s hot shoe, connected to the camera via a cable, and paired with the app. There is a USB-C to USB-A male cable (probably a USB-C to USB-C cable with an adapter) included in the package with every Syrp Genie Micro. An additional Shutter Link Cable, required for standard triggering, needs to be purchased separately. The USB-C port can be used for charging as well. The built-in Lithium battery should provide a battery life of 7 hours.
Syrp Genie Micro itself is really compact. The weight is only 0.96oz (29g) and its dimensions are 2.05 x 2.05 x 0.67″ (5.2 x 5.2 x 1.7 cm). The device’s interface consists of a 2.5mm Shutter Control Port, Bluetooth 4.0, USB-C Port, and Wifi 2.4GHz. The range of the device is up to 32.8′ (10 m).
It is also possible to control multiple cameras by using more than one Genie Micro. Users can start and stop a recording from the app and use it to maintain physical distance from the talent.
The Syrp app (available free of charge for both iOS and Android) can control ISO, aperture, and shutter speed of the connected camera, it can start/stop recording or take photos (including HDR mode) which can be very useful when creating stop motion videos for example. It can also set and control the timelapse function.
The Genie Micro is now available for purchase. The retail price has been set to $159.99.
