TAMRON Lens Utility Mobile Released – Customize and Control Their Lenses

The TAMRON Lens Utility Mobile App allows shooters to customize and control their Tamron lenses in the field. Currently available for Android devices only, this free mobile application offers many of the same features found in the TAMRON Lens Utility for Windows/Mac. However, it can also be used as a tethered lens remote. Let’s dive in and see everything it can do!

The company first launched the desktop TAMRON Lens Utility application in October of 2021. It is a straightforward program designed to update firmware, and personalize lens settings to make photography “more fun”. It works by connecting the lens directly to the system via a USB-C cable, and it is only compatible with 5 lenses.

The mobile version of the Tamron app is limited to working with only 3 of those 5 compatible TAMRON lenses at launch and does not allow users to update the firmware.

*TAMRON has stated that the 50-400mm (Model A067) will be compatible at a later date.

The compatible lenses will also need to be updated to the latest firmware, which can only be done using the TAMRON Lens Utility desktop version.

TAMRON Lens Utility Mobile – settings

Customize the Custom Switch or Focus Set Button

• A-B Focus: Select 2 focus points and shift between them.
• Focus Preset: Quickly shift focus to a pre-selected position by pressing the Focus Set Button.
• Focus Limiter: A function that can limit the AF focus range.
• AF/MF Switching: Switch between AF/MF using the focus set button
• Focus/Aperture Ring Switching: Switch the functions of the focus and aperture ring by pressing the focus set button.
• Camera Body Function Assignment: Assign custom functions from the camera body to the Focus Set Button.

Customize the Focus Ring

• MF Rotation Direction: Set the rotation direction of the focus ring.
• MF Response: Set the focus movement method when using the focus ring.

Tethered Remote Operation

• A-B Focus: Select 2 focus points and shift between them without touching the lens.
• Focus Preset: Quickly shift focus to a pre-selected position by pressing the Remote Set Button.
• Focus travel time can be specified in 0.1 second increments.

The TAMRON Lens Utility Mobile App for Android is available as a free download in the Google Play Store. Tamron has made no mention of availability for iOS. The TAMRON Lens Utility for Mac/PC can be downloaded directly from TAMRON’s site.
