Tentacle Sync recently introduced a new Micro-USB Type-B timecode cable for Sony FX3/FX30 cinema cameras. This cable connects to your Sony Multi/Micro-USB terminal and is compatible with the Tentacle Sync E/ORIGINAL timecode generator and the TRACK E audio recorder. Let’s take a closer look at it!
The Sony FX3 and FX30 cinema cameras feature a similar exterior design and are competent compact filmmaking tools. Both cameras recently got a major firmware update, version 4.00, unleashing 24p and 4K DCI recording, focus breathing compensation for the FX3, and most importantly, in-camera anamorphic de-squeeze.
However, due to their compact body size, it was hard for Sony to implement a proper Timecode port on the FX3/FX30, such as the one found on the FX6, for example. But, on the left side of the Sony FX3/FX30, below the USB Type-C port, there is a Micro-USB port that says “Multi”. Good news for Sony users: you can use that Multi port to feed timecode into the camera, but you need the proper connection cable.
Tentacle Sync recently launched a Micro-USB Type-B to 3.5mm 3-pin mini jack timecode cable for the Sony FX3 and FX30. This cable has a length of 25cm/9.84in, which is long enough if you mount your Tentacle Sync SYNC E/ORIGINAL or TRACK E audio recorder on the top or left side of your camera.
Please note that the company mentions that if you use this cable with “devices from other manufacturers, we can not guarantee whether this works or exclude that damage may occur!” In a nutshell, if you use a Timecode box from another manufacturer, you had better get a cable from the manufacturer in question.
The Tentacle Sync Timecode cable for the Sony FX3/FX30 is available now for €20.
