Cinevate:

I think it is OK to say, that we are back with our problem child of the first part of the review. The Cinevate gear has proven to be of rather low quality, very difficult and time consuming to setup. These attributes also apply to the handheld part of the rig. Unfortunately, we set up the base plate improperly. The articulations could have been set in a z-shaped manner. Below is a photograph showing the correct setup, this will also allow for use of a loupe like a Zacuto Z-Finder (we talked about the problem of using the Z-Finder on this base plate in the first part of the review) or LCDVF.

The base plate is more stable like that, but still not stable enough for our tastes. If we had setup the base plate correctly, we could have used the matte box with our long still photo lens.

Talking about stability we found it hard or impossible to keep everything on this rig stable.

None of the basic screws on this rig lock or open entirely, so it gave us a hard time to adjust and use.

When testing the sideways balance, at one point the screws on the handles weren’t strong enough and the rig dropped sideways, even without the additional 1.8kg. weight of a matte box or follow focus.
