The quick release plate can additionally be used to slide the camera a good deal forwards or backwards on the base plate. We like that.

Unfortunately, the quick release plate is very long. This means if you want to use a Zacuto Z-Finder and a small lens, you’ll have to surrender one of those items since the lens gear on small lenses sits very close to the camera and would conflict with the quick release plate on the other side. The Z-Finder always does this.

There is no problem with the LCDVF however. We like the LCDVF very much and also prefer it for it’s better optics and field of view, but since Johnnie needs a diopter change he’s using the Zacuto Z-Finder. There’s a sock on the Z-Finder to protect the screw thread which is usually exposed on this unit.

Danny uses a Hoodman loupe and says the long camera plate is useful to attach the loupe. He sent us this picture where you can see the Hoodman attached.

The screw that holds the quick release plate is made of plastic but works extremely well. It won’t conflict with our 7D attached.
