Half Inch Rails
Half Inch Rails is the rig project of UK based Sam Morgan Moore who is a still photographer obsessed with creating perfect usability for the DSLR video camera. From what we know he has put a lot of work into getting a simple, cheap, yet practical solution together. We really liked his vision and unique approach and asked him to send over a prototype unit. Here it is.
What we like a lot about Sam’s rig is that it’s extremely lightweight and simple. You just pop on the camera, done. You can carry it in your backpack and when you get it out it’s already built together.
To use a base plate, there’s a Manfrotto quick release plate that will work with a Manfrotto photo tripod. We realize this rig is really for people who don’t spend much money on gear. If you have a Manfrotto photo tripod, you can take the camera off the rig and pop it onto the tripod very quickly.
Unfortunately there is no tripod platform to attach your own tripod plate underneath yet, we would like that since the rig is lightweight and it wouldn’t matter to have it on the tripod as well. Would it?
