The EOS-M is cheaper again: $299

The price of the EOS-M has dropped several times this year. Now that the much more expensive Sony a7 has proven to have its flaws it might be a good time to consider the most affordable HDSLR again: Now it’s at $299 including the 18-55mm kit lens.

That’s a really nice deal considering that it’s basically a Canon T4i/650D in a smaller body with the additional benefit of the shorter lens mount.

Benefit? Yes, the mount is really a benefit as the shorter flange distance allows for the adaptation of numerous vintage and alien lenses. By now you can get a bunch of different systems with one of the different adapters. Most importantly if you consider the EOS-M you will probably want to get a M to EF adapter with it in order to be able to use the normal Canon EF lenses.

Downsides:
The kit lens that comes with the EOS-M is not ideal for video. We considered the image stabilizer to be too unsmooth in our initial hands-on.
Also the touchscreen controls are not everyones thing. And lastly the sensor it shares with the Canon EOS 7D, T3i, T4i, etc… is prone to aliasing and moiré just like the new Sony a7 and a7R.
Other than that, it’s basically the most affordable entry level HDSLR you could get right now.
