Recently Canon held a seminar discussing the future of its video camcorders. HD and flash memory were some of the topics discussed at the seminar. In 2009 Canon released nine new flash based camcorders, only one new camcorder using tape. The “Future” could spell the end of tape-based cameras for Canon.

I can sense the fear in the Canon Video Division. They are clearly out of touch with their market.

Canon’s Senior Advisory Director Takashi Kuniyoshi commented on the difference between Camcorder Video and DSLR’s

“When you look at the image quality, camcorders sensors are made very small, so that you can have this compact size. DSLR sensors, as well as the lenses, are larger so you have a larger product. So it’s all up to the user to choose between the DSLR, the compacts, or the camcorders depending on what it is they want to take, and Canon will focus on what the consumer wants to use the equipment for.”
If Canon is going to finally focus on the consumer, then where are the 24p/60p firmware updates for the 5D Mark II?
