Tokina announced that their atx-m 23mm, 33mm, and 56mm F/1.4 lenses for Sony E-Mount cameras will ship on November 12th. These lenses that only cover APS-C sensors were already available for FUJIFILM X-Mount cameras. Let’s take a closer look at these!
Back in March 2020, Tokina announced its yearly lens roadmap for its atx-i and the atx-m lineup of lenses right before the pandemic. However, things took more time than expected, and close to one year later, the company is close to finally starting shipping their three new atx-m lenses for Sony E-Mount cameras.
Tokina atx-m lenses for Sony E-Mount cameras are available in two flavors: Full-Frame and APS-C.
If you have a Full-Frame camera, you can choose between the Tokina atx-m 35mm F/1.8 FE, the Tokina atx-m 50mm F/1.8 FE, and the Tokina atx-m 85mm F/1.8.
However, if you’re shooting with an APS-C camera, you can save a bit of money by picking the lighter and brighter Tokina atx-m 23mm F/1.4 E, Tokina atx-m 33mm F/1.4 E, or Tokina atx-m 56mm F/1.4 E.
All these lenses have some things in common:
Let’s start with the widest lens, the Tokina atx-m 23mm F/1.4 E (35mm full-frame equivalent). This lens is also the lightest at only 276g/0.6lbs. Therefore, this lens will be perfect for street/landscape shooters.
The lens design of the Tokina atx-m 23mm F/1.4 E consists of 11 elements in 10 groups with two Low-Dispersion (SD) glass elements to correct aberrations. The aperture diaphragm has nine aperture blades. The minimum focusing distance is 30cm/0.98ft.
Next is the Tokina atx-m 33mm F/1.4 E (50mm full-frame equivalent), which is one of the most “standard” and versatile lenses you can get. With a weight of 285g/0.62lbs, it’s a must-have.
The lens design of the Tokina atx-m 33mm F/1.4 E consists of 10 elements in 9 groups with one Low-Dispersion (SD) glass element. The aperture diaphragm has nine aperture blades. The minimum focusing distance is 40cm/1.31ft.
Last is the Tokina atx-m 56mm F/1.4 E (85mm full-frame equivalent), which is more suited for portrait and beauty shots. Unfortunately, this lens is also the heaviest of all three at 315g/0.69lbs. However, don’t get me wrong, it’s still very light for such a bright lens!
The lens design of the Tokina atx-m 56mm F/1.4 E consists of 10 elements in 9 groups with one Low-Dispersion (SD) glass element. The aperture diaphragm has nine aperture blades. The minimum focusing distance is 60cm/1.96ft.
All three lenses will be available starting from November 12th. The Tokina atx-m 23mm F/1.4 E and 56mm F/1.4 E will retail for $359/€369 each, while the 33mm F/1.4 E will be slightly less expensive at $309/€319. So for just over $1000, you can get three high-quality and very bright prime lenses; that’s an incredible offering from Tokina.
