Christmas is already behind us, but there are quite a few interesting deals for filmmakers available in this post-Xmas, pre-new years article. We have selected the best offers for filmmaking gear from our partners’ online shops for this week.
I went through the current deals on our partners’ websites and selected the top offers currently available, which I think could be interesting for you. The B&H offers listed are for our readers based in North and South America. By shopping at our affiliate partners’ stores you are supporting cinema5D through our buy links, as we get a small affiliate commission when a purchase is completed.
Watch out – There are a few deals in this article which expire tonight, December 27th, at 11:59 PM ET!
I’m yet to write and conclude my review about editing with the new MacBook Air laptop from Apple (Very much doable), but regardless of its performance, the ease of use and lightweight benefits when traveling are a plus. By The way, if its color is the thing that maybe prevents you from going for it, the SILVER version of this laptop is also on special sale.
Looking for moving a step higher in performance and specifications, but still keeping the convenience of lightweight traveling? Then, the Apple MacBook Pro might be the laptop for you. If you are into the SILVER color more than gray, try this link for the same discounted price.
At times, those Collapsible Circular Reflector discs can come very handy, depending on the effect you want to achieve when lighting your object of interview. For some, those will be a bit small but for others, considering the price and simplicity of use, it might be worth considering having such an accessory in the bag.
Gimbals are becoming an extremely popular piece of accessory and although we did not test and review this particular one from Feiyu, it gets rather decent reviews at B&H. Plus, now there is a massive discount on this gimbal!
If you are more of a traditional operator, have the patience and recognise the benefits and limitations of such a system, then the Steadicam Merlin 2 might be the right tool for you. Make sure to take the time to learn it, watch the video and read the instructions before taking it to the field.
If you are on a small/low budget shoot and looking for a multi input audio recording device, then the Zoom F4 might be the one you are looking for. The sound quality is good for the price and some features like recording to 2 SD cards for backup are very useful to have. True, the knobs feels a bit plasticky, but all in all, it seems as if this recorder is built to survive.
Surely, those tripod legs are no substitute for a proper camera support when traveling, yet, as I’m constantly on the search for lightweight, capable tripod legs – mostly in order to accommodate the (very small) slider or mirrorless B-cam I’m using when traveling – I thought this option is valid, especially considering the price.
I think there is no real need to introduce the capabilities of the original DJI Mavic Pro drone (see our review here). Not long ago it was “the best compact drone money can buy” and surely, there are many that can still benefit from using it for either filming or purely for the sake of flying. Oh, and in regards to color, interesting to know how easy (or not) it will be spotting it while in the air…
