ProCamera is an iOS-only photo/video application that unleashes all your smartphone’s cameras possibilities, and with their latest ProCamera v14.4 update, you can even use your iPhone or iPad as a webcam for high-quality business meetings/video calls. So let’s take a closer look at it!
Over the last year, we saw multiple solutions to turn your Canon camera, FUJIFILM X, Sony, or Panasonic LUMIX camera into a webcam. These solutions are convenient if you already have a DSLR/Mirrorless camera at your disposal.
ProCamera has just released an update to its famous iOS photo/video app to push things even further, so you can now use your iPhone/iPad as a webcam through a cable or via AirPlay.
In the latest ProCamera v14.4 update, you’ll find a new mode called “Stream.” In this Stream mode, you can share the current live clean video feed – without sound and interface buttons – of the iPhone’s camera.
Streaming works fully automatically. However, you still have control over focus, white balance, zoom, and exposure settings. In addition, if you have an iPhone/iPad with multi-lenses, you can select which lens you want to display inside ProCamera v14.4. Also, according to the company, “for best image quality and high dynamic range, the virtual fusion camera is used on multi-lens devices.”
To connect your iPhone or iPad to your laptop, you have two solutions. The easiest one is to use AirPlay, which doesn’t require extra pieces of equipment. However, you’ll face some latency, which is sometimes not acceptable. To solve that issue, you will need to use good old cables.
According to ProCamera, they used “different models of Adhope branded capture cards,” which are quite affordable. If you already have a Blackmagic Design or Elgato Corsair capture card, I guess it would work the same.
And voilà , you can now use your iPhone/iPad cameras as a high-end, portable, and cost-effective webcam solution (compared to Apple’s built-in webcam) to improve the quality of your business meetings or Zoom calls.
ProCamera v14.4 is a free update for all existing users and is available now. If you don’t have the App on your iPhone, you can get it on the App Store for $8.99.
