Wise Advanced is officially entering the CFexpress Type A market with two new memory cards – a 512GB standard media and a PRO 160GB version. Additionally, the company is introducing a CFexpress Type A card reader. Let’s take a look!
At the current state of technology, the CFexpress Type A media standard is used by select Sony Alpha mirrorless and Cinema Line cameras, such as the a7s III, the FX3, and the FX6 – just to name a few.
While Sony already produces its CFexpress Type A TOUGH Series cards in capacities of 80, 160, 320, 640, 960, and a massive 1920GB, their media tends to be pretty expensive. So it’s nice to see third-party manufacturers – such as Angelbird – come up with alternative, more affordable solutions. Now, Wise Advanced is joining the party.
The Taiwanese company is debuting in this market segment with two CFexpress Type A cards, a high-capacity 512GB version, and a PRO 160GB one. Both cards offer maximum read and write speeds of 820 and 730 MB/s respectively. The main difference is that the PRO model guarantees a higher sustained write speed of 650 MB/s (200 MB/s on the 512GB model), thus providing extra peace of mind when shooting.
Both cards rely on the PCIe Gen 3×1 standard and should be fast enough to support all flavors of XAVC S-I recording on the latest Sony cameras, including Slow & Quick modes in FullHD or 4K.
Moreover, the company unveiled a new, dual card reader featuring a CFexpress Type A as well as an SD UHS-II slot. The reader features a USB Type C 3.2 Gen 2×2 interface and is claimed to offer read speeds of up to 20Gbps.
The new Wise Advanced 512BG and 160GB Pro CFexpress Type A cards are now available to purchase from B&H. Both versions share the same official retail price of $249.99.
Lastly, the new Wise Advanced Type A / SD UHS-II Card Reader should become available towards the end of September for $89.99.For more information, please visit Wise Advanced’s website here.
